    De Anza Classified Senate

    Date: May 13, 2026

    Mailroom Feedback Survey
    • Classified Senate discussed the Mailroom Impact Survey and ongoing feedback regarding mailroom changes.
    • The survey received 64 responses.
    • Concerns noted included mail/packages not arriving on time, misplaced items, and packages being delivered without recipient names.
    • Feedback will help document campus impacts and identify areas for follow-up.
    Elections Committee Update (Connor McGill)
    • Nominations are still being collected.
    Classified Professionals Appreciation Week (May 18-22)
    • Reminder shared regarding Classified Professionals Appreciation Week, scheduled for May 18-22.
    Student Support from Voluntary Dues Account
    • Discussion included potential ways to use the voluntary dues account to provide student support.
    • Adriana Garcia shared ideas for student support, including creating a stipend distribution subcommittee.
    • Further discussion may be needed to clarify process, eligibility, and oversight for any stipend distribution.
    Feedback on Proctoring Software (James Capurso)
    • Classified Senate discussed a survey regarding online proctoring and monitoring software.
    • Proctoring tools were described as software used to monitor student behavior during assessments, including webcam, audio, AI-assisted monitoring, and browsing history features.
    • Possible benefits included deterring cheating and supporting assessment integrity.
    • Concerns included privacy, invasiveness, and the long-term implications of using proctoring technology.
    • A question was raised about whether the survey is intended as a general feedback request or whether long-term proctoring software use is being considered.
    • San Jose City College and Evergreen were mentioned in relation to LockDown Browser or similar proctoring tools.
    • Classified professionals were encouraged to complete the survey.
    College Values, Mission, and Vision Presentation
    • Lisa provided an update on revisiting the college values, mission, and vision as part of the college’s institutional identity work.
    • Classified professionals were asked to provide immediate feedback through the College Values Pulse survey.
    • The timeline shared indicated college brand research will be conducted and findings shared in 2026, with continued work on college values, mission, and vision extending into 2027.
    College Brand Research
    • Elizabeth presented information on De Anza’s brand research and preliminary external findings.
    • The research is intended to compare external perceptions with the college’s self-understanding and identify any gaps.
    • The presentation noted that the research may help strengthen brand awareness, enrollment, and community partnerships.
    • The research may also provide data to support strategic communications, resource allocation, operational decisions, and alignment with workforce and community needs.
    • Campus feedback also reflected concern about De Anza becoming more of a commuter school and interest in strengthening campus life and connection.
    RAPP Faculty Prioritization Subcommittee & Program Sustainability Subcommittee Update
    • Lisa provided an update related to RAPP, including the Faculty Hiring Prioritization Subcommittee and Program Sustainability Subcommittee.
    • The Faculty Hiring Prioritization Subcommittee proposal included review of new and replacement full-time faculty positions, as well as faculty emergency hires.
    • The proposed recommendation process showed the subcommittee making recommendations to RAPP, with RAPP forwarding recommendations to College Council.
    Shared Governance / Leadership Reports
    • Shared governance and leadership report updates were included at the end of the meeting agenda.
