Funds Made Available by Faculty Retirements – Conversation continued:
Appropriateness of positions selected was discussed. David Garrido and Jenny Vela joined the meeting providing IPBT members an opportunity to hear from Online Education Center staff directly. Both David and Jenny confirmed that from their viewpoint the addition of the suggested positions fit their needs to create a sustainable workflow for Online Education Center. David explained that a classified professional reporting directly to the AVPI as it is now, or even if it was a supervisor reporting to the AVPI, creates a vacuum. Leadership is missing and this makes compliance and supervision problematic. An administrative level person is needed to attend necessary meetings, including District level ones. David also underscored the need for another Instructional Trainer especially in the absence of a Technology Trainer.
Lydia shared snapshot budget showing that three faculty positions would approximately fund the Dean and the Instructional Designer positions in online education.
Jayanti from Child Development and Jim Suits from Administrative of Justice, both from CTE departments, spoke to the benefit of supporting CTE programs. Jim noted that with the addition of new courses, new certificates and degrees, and state-of-the-art crime lab, enrollment in Administration of Justice program is increasing.
Thomas Bailey reminded that Online Education is part of Instruction and that faculty should not be pitted against classified professionals.
